Cabbage Muthiya is nice variation to the famous Gujarati snack Muthiya. Muthiya are steamed hot dog shaped balls made from flour and vegetables. They can be directly eaten out of the steamer or can be stir fried or tempered with oil before serving. In this recipe cabbage is used to make this yummy snack. It is easy to make and cooks fast with very few ingredients. It can also be used to give to children for school tiffin and can also be served as tea time snack!

INGREDIENTS:
For Muthiya:
1/3 Cup Coarsely Ground Wheat Flour
1 Tbsp Semolina (Rava)
1 Tbsp Gram Flour
1 Tbsp Oil
2 Tbsp Fresh Cream (Malai)
1 Cup Finely Chopped Cabbage
1/2 Tsp Sesame Seeds (Til)
1/4 Tsp Black Pepper Powder
Pinch Baking Soda (optional)
1/4 Tsp Chaat Masala
1/8 Tsp Asafoetida (Hing)
1/8 Tsp Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
2 Tsp Powdered Sugar
1/4 Cup Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves
1 Tbsp Green Chillies & Ginger Paste
Salt to taste
For Tempering:
2 Tbsp Oil
1/4 Tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4 Tsp Cumin Seeds
1/2 Tsp Sesame Seeds (Til)
SERVES: 2 Persons (Approx. 264 gm)
PREPARATION TIME: 10 Min
COOKING TIME: 25 Min
TOTAL TIME: 35 Min
* 1 CUP = 240 ML
METHOD:
For Muthiya:
1. Heat water in Idli Steamer.
2. In a bowl, add coarsely ground wheat flour, semolina (rava), gram flour, 1 Tbsp oil, fresh cream, cabbage, sesame seeds (til), black pepper powder, baking soda, chaat masala, asafoetida (hing), turmeric powder (haldi), powdered sugar, coriander leaves, green chillies and ginger paste & salt to taste.
3. Mix well. Consistency should be dough like. If needed, add water spoon by spoon.
4. Grease muthiya plate with oil.
5. Using greased hands make hot dog shape balls (muthiya) from dough and place in plate.
6. Put it in steamer with boiling water and steam on med-high flame for 15-20 mins.
7. After 15 min check muthiya using a knife and if small crumbs coat it is done.
8. Allow muthiya to cool down to room temperature.
9. Cut it in to pieces.
For Tempering:
1. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan.
2. Add mustard seeds & allow it to crackle.
3. Add cumin seeds & sesame seeds (til).
4. Add cut muthiya pieces, mix well and cook on medium flame for 2-3 min till crispy.
5. Switch off flame
6. Add 1-2 tbsp freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot
TIPS:
1. Fresh cream makes Muthiya soft.
2. You can serve Muthiyas directly after steaming if you don't want to stir fry it.
