Chocolate Paan Balls is a wonderful chocolate balls made using Kolkata Paan. They are small bite sized balls made out of paan (betel leaves), gulkand, dry fruits and sauf and then coated with dark and white chocolate. They are quick to make and tastes like chocolate paan balls available at local paan shops. They can be stored in refrigerator for 5-6 days. Make this unique mithai this Diwali and get prepared to be praised by friends and family. Serve it to guests or have after meals - you just cannot have enough of this mithai!
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup desiccated coconut
1/4 cup tutti frutti
1/8 chopped mix dry fruits (cashew nuts & almonds)
1 tsp long strands of betel nuts (lacha supari)
2 tsp fennel seeds (sauf) or mouth freshener (any variety)
4 finely chopped Kolkata Paan (Betel Leaves)
4 tbsp gulkand (or as needed)
100 gm dark chocolate
100 gm white chocolate
Desiccated coconut & mouth freshener for garnish
SERVES: 18-20 Chocolate Paan Balls
PREPARATION TIME: 15 Mins
COOKING TIME: 2 Mins
TOTAL TIME: 17 Mins
* 1 CUP = 237 ML
METHOD:
1. In a big bowl take desiccated coconut, tutti frutti, mix dry fruits (cashew nuts & almonds), long strands of betel nuts (lacha supari), fennel seeds (sauf) or mouth freshener (any variety), Kolkata Paan (Betel Leaves), 2 tbsp gulkand. Mix well.
2. Add more gulkand if required for binding. I have added 2 tbsp gulkand more. Mix well.
3. Now prepare small or big balls out of stuffing. Approx 18-20 balls.
4. Refrigerate for 1 hour to set.
5. Melt dark and white chocolate separately in microwave for 30 - 40 seconds on HIGH POWER.
6. Mix well ensuring no lumps. Chocolate at room temperature will melt fast.
7. Place parchment paper or aluminium foil on a plate.
8. Remove paan balls from fridge & coat few paan balls in chocolate using a spoon or fork. Then lift it out and tap on the sides of the bowl to drip any excess chocolate and then put it on plate.
9. Garnish with mouth freshener or desiccated coconut.
10. Coat some paan balls in white chocolate in the same way.
11. Garnish with mouth freshener.
12. Set in fridge for 15-20 min.
13. Drizzle white chocolate over few dark chocolate paan balls.
14. Drizzle dark chocolate on few white chocolate paan balls.
15. Set in fridge for 5-10 min and then serve!
16. You can store chocolate paan balls in foil or zip lock bag in air tight container for 5-6 days in refrigerator.
