Mixed Dal Pakoda is a perfect monsoon snack recipe which is healthy as well as tasty at the same time. Made from lentils it is rich in proteins and potato stuffing gives it nice flavour. Dal needs to be soaked for 3-4 hours before grinding it. You can even make this recipe by shallow frying. Enjoy mixed Dal Pakoda with green chutney and tea.
INGREDIENTS:
For Dal Mixture:
¼ cup yellow moong dal
¼ cup urad dal
3-4 garlic cloves
2 green chillies
small piece ginger
1 tbsp hot oil
⅛ tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
¼ tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
¼ cup water
Salt to taste
For Stuffing:
1 cup boiled & mashed potatoes
1 tbsp oil
¼ tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
⅛ tsp asafoetida (hing)
2 tbsp chopped onion
1 green chilli - finely chopped
½ tsp garam masala
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp coriander powder
1 tsp sugar
⅛ tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tbsp chopped green coriander leaves
juice of 1 lemon
Salt to taste
SERVES: 2-3 persons
PREPARATION TIME: 20 min
SOAKING TIME: 3-4 hours
COOKING TIME: 20 min
TOTAL TIME: 40 min + soaking time
* 1 CUP = 237 ML
METHOD:
For Dal Mixture:
1. Soak yellow moong dal & urad dal in water for 3-4 hours.
2. After 3-4 hours, wash dal 1-2 times & transfer it to a strainer to get rid of water completely.
3. Transfer dal to mixer grinding jar.
4. Add 3-4 garlic cloves, green chillies, ginger, turmeric powder (haldi), salt to taste, cumin seeds (jeera) & water.
5. Grind to slightly coarse texture.
6. Transfer this batter to a bowl.
7. Whisk this batter for 4-5 mins for soft & light pakoda. You can also use hand blender. Dal mixture is ready.
For Stuffing:
1. Heat oil in a pan.
2. Add cumin seeds (jeera), asafoetida (hing) & chopped onion. Mix & keep the flame low.
3. Add green chilli, garam masala, red chilli powder, coriander powder, sugar, salt, turmeric powder (haldi) & potatoes. Mix well.
4. Cook for 1-2 mins & switch off the flame.
5. Add green coriander leaves,lemon juice & mix.
6. Allow the stuffing to cool completely.
7. After stuffing has cooled down & make small balls from it.
For Mixed Dal Pakoda:
1. Heat oil for frying.
2. Add 1 tbsp hot oil in batter & mix well.
3. Dip potato balls in batter & coat it well.
4. Slide these balls in hot oil. Lower the flame once the oil is hot.
5. Fry on medium to high flame for 3-4 min till golden brown.
6. Once golden brown, transfer it on paper napkin.
7. Mixed Dal Pakoda is ready to serve!
